1160 ESPN – WPIE is now providing more locally focused scores, reports and interviews than ever before in its 21 year history. New owners and Ithaca residents, Todd and Tina Mallinson of Taughannock Media, LLC and their staff, have recently moved to their newly renovated offices and studio in Lansing. “We’ve been working on this acquisition for a few years, and it’s a tremendous feeling to see it all come together” said President and General Manager Todd Mallinson. We’ve put together a tremendously dedicated and talented staff who are very committed to covering local sports well beyond the score.
With the addition of “Between The Lines” which airs weekdays from 4-5p hosted by Cornell and Syracuse alum Matt Schultz. It’s a fast-paced hour of interviews with coaches and athletes, insights and updates on a wide array of sports at the high school and collegiate level in the area. Matt is joined by sports reporter Matt Tymann, who also provides local reports and “All-Access” interviews heard daily. Longtime area sports journalist and reporter Steve Lawrence provides reports through his feature commentary “I’m Just Sayin’” heard regularly on the station. Rounding out our staff are two very dedicated and enthusiastic weekend reporters in SUNY Cortland's Matt Colbert and Ithaca College's Nate March.
There’s a tremendous amount of passion people have for sports and we’re pleased to be tapping into that energy. We’ve had great response from coaches and athletic directors at the area schools who have been terrific in providing insight to their athletic programs for our listeners.
